Gellin like McClellan

Kyle McClellan added offense to his great pitching performance on the way to his first win as a starter.

Cardinals 8  Dbacks 2

The Cardinals starting pitching continued to look sharp as they won their 2nd in a row.  Kyle McClellan, former set up man turned starter and now rbi machine was the mvp of the night.  McClellan improved to 1-0 on the season going 6 innings, 1 earned run, and 4 Ks.  He did give up 7 hits but minimized the damage.  In the 4th inning he got out of a jam giving up only 1 run in the inning.  That was only half the story though, he also helped lead the Cardinals offense going 2 for 2, 2 rbis and also reached on an error.

Other highlights included Lance Berkman hitting his first HR as a Cardinal and then later his 2nd homer in the 9th to give the Cardinals some extra security.  Jon Jay followed Berkman with his first homer to make it back to back.  Freese put together another multi hit game.  FYI I am going to use the same link every time I mention Freese this year.  So unless you thought Batman Forever was a great piece of cinematography with Arnold giving an Oscar performance then you might not want to click on it anymore.

Relief Pitcher Run Down
Augenstein came in to pitch the 7th but only got 1 out before beaming a batter and giving up a ground rule double.  One run scored after he left and Miller took over.  I still think that Brian Bryan will be an asset to the team, if only because he took up the number 22.  Miller was then replaced after pitching to the lefty batter by Motte in a classic TLR double switch.  Motte pitched a scoreless 8th also and retired all 5 men he faced on the night.  What I liked most was Boggs coming in and K'ing the side in the 9th.  Write it down, he has the stuff to be a future closer for the team in a year or 2.

Other Notes
Barry Enright established himself by likely getting his name added to the Cardinals black list.  In addition to thowing inside to Theriot twice, he beamed Holliday and called time at the last second while batting (which I consider bush league).
