Insert Bryan Augenstein Pun Here

Bryan Augenstein performs the trust fall exercise as part of his initiation into the semi-retirement home, known as the Cardinal's bullpen.

No. 22 Bryan Augenstein – R/R:  Other than wearing my favorite number on his back, what else should we know about Bryan?  Why does he spell his name in that weird way?  Does Augenstein like Ramstein?  Maybe, maybe not, but his entrance music is "In the Air Tonight" by Non Point which is a pretty awesome song, albeit Non Point is no Phil Collins.

The Cardinals grabbed A-stein off waivers from the Dbacks in October.  Still just 24 years old he is the youngest member of the cardinals aging-to-ancient bullpen.  I am guessing he is the guy that is getting hazed, having to buy the other relief pitchers their 4 o'clock dinner at Old Country Buffett, has to make sure everyone's cushions are in their proper chair in the bullpen, and is forced to sleep on a fold out cot next to Dave Duncan's bed on road trips.

On the year so far Bryan, or Brian as I am sure appears on his incoming junk mail, is 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA.  He gave up the 2 runs and 3 hits after getting 2 quick outs on opening day in extra innings.  Not a great start, but my first impression is that I like Augenstein.  The team is going to need his youth as we head towards the dog days of summer and the old men would rather sit on their fold out chairs and sip lemonade than warm up.  Look for Augestein to take a few knocks this season, but he will improve and gain confidence as the season roles along and he gains experience.  With Duncan on the case he will have Bryan whipped into shape, throwing sinkers and complaining about all the young punk 22 year old players out there in no time.

So pitch with confidence Mr. Augenstein, Ray Patterson has your back.  That has to count for something right?
