Jaime Can Also Toss A Baseball Pretty Well
That is right Ray Patterson is a Spanish linguist, "Donde es el bano?" Bam, yes thank you.
The first thing you might notice about Jaime Garcia, is that the 'i' in his first name, sneaks up a few spaces compared to the "American" version of the name Jamie. Well that might be the first thing you notice if you are a nerd or don't know anything about baseball. That or the fact that he could easily play the Hispanic double of Matt Dillon. If you do know something about baseball you know that this is a young ace in the making. And also his name is pronounced "Hi-me" not Jamie... you would not that if you were cultured at all, geez.
Garcia took a step in the right direction to start the year, by putting to rest the fears many had due to a poor spring showing. Well spring training stats mean about as much as getting Sir Loves-A-Lot on Love Day does when you wanted Lord Hugginton. In his season debut Garcia threw a complete game shut out. He allowed just 4 hits and struck out 9, surpassing his previous career high of 7. He needed just 102 pitches to get 27 outs. Watching the highlights his slider was on today, and he was hitting his spots inside. He is not an overpowering pitcher, so location and mixing up the pitches is key for his success. His performance allows for some optimism that they will still have a solid, if not good pitching staff despite the loss of Adam Wainwright.
Jaime Garcia is just one of a growing list of pitchers to make a successful return from Tommy John surgery. On the smaller side (for a pitcher) Garcia is 6'2" and 215 lbs, which I guess is 4 inches too tall to play Matt Dillon's twin brother in a film idea I had called "Brother from Across the Boarder."
Garcia won a spot on the rotation last spring and never looked back. He finished with an incredible 2.70 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and was 13-8 in 163 innings in 2010. In a stellar class of NL rookies Garica finished 3rd in the ROY voting, behind Buster Posey (Giants) and Jason Heyward (Braves).
In a full year + 1 start Garcia has his career off to a fantastic start... most likely due to tossin around the ole' medicine ball as seen above. Still just 24 years old he will be a part of the Cardinals future for a long time. More importantly there appears to be a "Jaime Garcia brand cigar that is made. I can see it's stock sky rocketing if left handed pitching Garcia is able to put up similar stats the rest of the year.
