Tallet: A Bullpen Commodity

It is still unconfrimed whether Tallet has any relation to Grizzly Adams.

No. 56 Brian Tallet makes up the more rugged side of the Cardinals bullpen.  Tallet, 33 was born in Oklahoma, and prior to signing with the Cardinals pitched for the Toronto Blue Jays as a 2nd round pick in 2000.  Going from OK to “Eh” had to be a bit of a culture shock.  He went from pick up trucks and fresh steaks to 1996 wood panel station wagons and maple syrup, which certainly can be classified as a lose-lose situation.

In November the Cardinals signed Tallet in a clear act of desperation to fill the void left by good ole’ boy Jason LaRue.  LaRue was a fan favorite of the Redbird nation for his gritty play and colorful attitude.  Tallet has the gritty play thing down (kind of), but lets see him re-grow those mutton chops to really make himself a household name in Missouri.

Last season with the Azul Jays Tallet compiled a 6.4 ERA in 77 1/3 innings, and gave up 20 home runs.  Not spectacular but lets not forget he was pitching in the ESPN’s highly coveted AL East.    Now he will be pitching in the much more pitcher-friendly NL Central.  Also it should be noted that away from the Rogers Centre, which sounds like a really exciting place to watch baseball by the way, batters managed only a .236 avg.  It is clear that leaving Toronto (batters had .306 avg at home and his era was almost double) should do him some good.  Look for his facebook wiki page to at least double the amount of "Likes" and perhaps even be updated.

TLR will use Tallet specifically against lefties though.  They had just a.176 avg. as opposed to righties who hit .320.  This should make him a candidate to come in and get the out in the 7th or 8th against NL central lefty hitters such as Tubs McGee and Jay ‘I’m not as good as Matt Holliday’ Bruce.  Sorry that was the only insult I could come up with for him.  TLR will use this situational pitcher to his full advantage, so if your fantasy league scores for double switches Tallet is a must own.

B-Ry Tallet will be called on to be a stable source of outs for a bullpen that has questions elsewhere.  On the year Tallet has pitched 2 1/3 innings, 2Ks, and an ERA and WHIP of 0.
